Okay so now it's on to lesson 2. This week we're going to try to understand ISO and shutter speed.
ISO
ISO is also called film speed.
ISO is a setting that determines how quickly images will be captured.
The higher the ISO the quicker the image will be captured {you will need less light}.
The lower the ISO the longer it takes for the image to be captured {you will need more light}.
You can play around with your ISO with these suggestions. They are a good rule of thumb to get a really great photo!
100-200 outdoors
400 shade, overcast outdoors, or indoors with a lot of light
800-1600 indoors, low light, sports or action
Shutter speed {TV button on our Canon's}
Shutter speed this how quickly your window opens.
The faster the shutter speed, the faster the camera takes the picture.
The slower the shutter speed, the slower the camera takes the picture.
I found myself today really leaning up on this lesson:

I really enjoyed how she spelled it out for me to try. So I did!
Okay so this lesson was about 3 things:
1. Slow shutter speed
2. Fast shutter speed
3. Manual settings

I had to use the flash on these because its a very nasty day here and I wasn't getting any light what so ever, so matter how high my ISO was!
Okay this is the very first time since I've had my camera that I've turned it to manual!! How exciting is that! Here are the photos I took of D!

I am pretty impressed with myself at how well these came out! I had no clue that shooting in manual could be this easy! I will be playing around this week with manual a little bit more too!
I also have to admit, this was a really fun challenge especially shooting in manual. But I am really going to have to study this lesson this week because it is confusing to me. The speed thingy leaves me scratching my head. I understand ISO more, so at least that part is catching on.
Playing around with shutter speed means the camera will automatically fix your aperture which is cool!
So this week let's practice, practice, practice! Hope it goes well for you!

Hi friend
Have you given any thought to when we can meet for coffee or to get a game plan for your home? (on me of course :) Let me know what works for you. Other than the 12th or 14th of this month, I think we will have to go into February. We are spending a long weekend in Lake Chelan the 15th to the 18th and then the 22nd to the 30th , we will be out of the country building a church, having VBS, and a medical clinic on a mission trip that includes people from 5 evangelical churches in our community. Nervous and excited to go.
Hope you are having a great weekend.

Just last night M bought me a Digital Field Guide book for my Nikon D40 and it's so helpful! I am understanding so many functions much more now! Great shots... love the water over the glass :)
